Legal Compliance (Queensland)

✔ 250W Continuous Output Motors

Our bikes are powered by legal 250W motors, meeting Queensland’s maximum continuous output limit for e-bikes used on public roads and shared paths.

✔ 25 km/h Assisted Speed Limit

Each bike provides pedal assistance up to 25 km/h, ensuring full compliance with regulated assisted-speed limits under Queensland and Australian standards.

✔ Pedal-Assist Operation (No Illegal Throttles)

Our fleet uses compliant pedal-assist systems with no unrestricted or illegal throttle setups, aligning with EN 15194 e-bike requirements.

Insurance Coverage

Oceanside Hire maintains active public liability insurance to cover approved rental operations across the Gold Coast.

Riders remain responsible for following Queensland road rules and for the condition of the bike during the rental period.

This insurance does not:

  • Cover personal injury caused by rider misuse

  • Replace medical insurance

  • Cover illegal or unsafe riding

  • Cover deliberate damage, reckless behaviour, or riding outside permitted areas

Rider Responsibilities

For everyones safety, riders must:

Follow all Queensland road rules

  • Ride at safe speeds around pedestrians

  • Keep to bike paths where available

  • Never ride while intoxicated

  • Secure the bike with the lock provided when unattended

  • Report any damage immediately

You are responsible for the bike while it is in your care.

Age & Rider Requirements

  • Minimum rider age: 16+ for solo riders

  • Riders under 16 may ride as passengers in a child seat under guardian supervision

  • Helmets are mandatory by law (we provide them free with every rental)

Damage, Loss & Security

Riders are responsible for:

  • Negligent or reckless damage

  • Lost or stolen bikes (if not locked securely)

  • Riding in prohibited or unsafe areas

  • Ignoring safety instructions

We’ll always work with you fairly — but all equipment must be returned in the same condition it was rented.

  • You have read and understood the safety guidelines

  • You accept responsibility for personal safety while riding

  • You accept responsibility for the bike during the rental period

Oceanside Hire is not liable for injuries resulting from misuse, unsafe riding, intoxication, or failure to follow instructions..

🚫 Strictly No Food Delivery or Courier Use

Oceanside Hire e-bikes are not permitted for any commercial delivery work, including but not limited to:

  • Uber Eats

  • DoorDash

  • Menulog

  • Deliveroo

  • Any courier or parcel delivery service

  • Any form of gig-economy delivery riding

All Oceanside Hire e-bikes are fully compliant with Queensland’s legal requirements for electric bicycles. Our fleet features 250W continuous output motors, pedal-assist operation and a capped 25 km/h assisted speed, making them road-legal for use on bike lanes, shared paths and public roads across the Gold Coast.

Licence is required to ride our e-bikes, and helmets are included with every rental. We complete safety checks before each hire and encourage riders to follow local road rules, ride responsibly and stay aware of pedestrians and traffic at all times.
