Ride safe. Ride legal.
E-bike rules on the Gold Coast are simple, and our whole fleet is built to meet them. Here is everything you need to know before you roll.
Road-legal, licence-free
Every bike in our fleet is a 250W pedal-assist e-bike with assistance limited to 25km/h — which makes it a bicycle under Queensland law. No licence, no registration, no CTP. Ride the roads, bike paths and the oceanway.
Helmets: mandatory and included
Queensland law requires an approved helmet at all times. An Australian-standard helmet is included free with every hire — or bring your own if you prefer.
Age rules
Solo riders must be 16 or older. Younger kids ride along in a properly fitted child seat under adult supervision — baby seats fitted free on request.
Where you can ride
Bike paths, shared paths, the beachfront oceanway and roads. Keep left, give way to pedestrians on shared paths, and ring the bell early — the esplanade gets busy in holiday season.
Checked before every hire
Brakes, tyres, lights and battery are checked before each bike goes out, and the fleet is professionally maintained. If anything ever feels off mid-ride, call us and we will sort it.
Insured operation
Oceanside Hire maintains public liability insurance for approved rental operations. Your rental agreement covers the details — you will read and sign it during the sixty-second online booking, no paperwork at pickup.
All sorted. Let’s ride.
Helmet, lock, lights and briefing — included with every bike.
